Did I ever mention my distain for football? No, well, it’s only equaled by my aversion to bad (read: completely personality-less) motel interiors. I practically have an allergic reaction to the game—and it’s not because it’s a sport. Apart from a few cute QBs and running backs, where’s the finesse?

On any given weekend, when I’m trying to get a little face time in with The Mister, I amuse myself by converting the colors in the home and away jerseys to what I perceive to be accurate PMS colors. Sometimes I draw the teams’ logos, if they’re particularly clever. I even occasionally don a pith helmet to study the strange behavior of Bare-Chested-Body-Painted-in-10-Degrees-Below-Zero Man, but it’s no use. At least with Super Bowl Sunday, there were always The Commercials, but they’ve become as bland as yesterday’s Chex Mix.

This year, I’m going to thaw out in South Beach, attending the Miami Modernism Show (look for news and photos this weekend) and hanging out with a dear friend who was smart enough to migrate down from Detroit. PLEASE NOTE: I am a huge Detroit booster and will expound on that in a later post. I’m merely noting wind chill factor here.

What can you do?

If you also happen to be in Miami, go the Show tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday. It’s in the James L. Knight Center next to the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami.

If you’re lucky enough to have already received it in the mail, you can pour over the new Chiasso Winter catalog and imagine how much your home could benefit from a few more modern and contemporary touches.

You can also paint your guestroom. Rearrange your patio furniture (a real challenge if it’s under eight inches of snow). Do laundry. Color-code your closet. Arrange a conference call with other DG (design geek) friends who appreciate your anti-pigskin punditry. Eat fabulous flatbreads at the table, sans flat screen. Take a well-deserved Sunday nap. Or…you could just wash your hair.
